ABD - Aquaculture By Design - are custom designed STC-Systems constructed specifically for a particular eutrophic site; and will depend upon the monthly sustainable biomass production expectation of a particular species of macroalgae (seaweed) from our client.  The layouts / configurations of these STC-Systems can be modulars, greenhouses, buildings or multi-level parking garages that can handle massive weight of multiple tanks, or pods - low profile /mostly submerged floating greenhouses to phyto-remediate floating fish farms.

It has been found from seven years of research & commercial growing of many different species of seaweed in regards to phyto-remediation of eutrophic aquaculture effluent or nutrient streams that has produced a ratio we have termed a SGR % (Seaweed Growth Ratio %); which is the daily growth rate of any particular species of macroalgae; and its nutrient uptake ability.  This has been achieved by knowing ;


  • The composition & concentrations of compounds found in the water sample analysis of a particular site; along with the amount of available gpm (gallons per minute) capability and;
  • The poundage of animal biomass that is grown at any particular site, and what the feed composition is used to feed them; will allow us to know in advance what the monthly seaweed biomass would be, and which species can be grown.


 It has been found from two years of research & commercial growing of many different species of seaweed in regards to phyto-remediation of a eutrophic coastal watershed with freshwater, brackish water, & saltwater influence with multiple nutrient inputs that;

  • If we know the composition & concentrations of compounds found in the water sample analysis of a particular site; along with the amount of available gpm (gallons per minute) capability;
  • We would be able to know in advance; what type of seaweed could be grown; and how much biomass can be grown.


Long Term Sustainability Facts of a STC-System

Our nine years of sustainable methodologiesof collecting & preparing a variety of seaweed species from nature to be placed in our STC-System; a totally environmental controlled system that works in combination with our Hybridization Period (HP); has enabled our seed stock to become sustainable.What does this statement mean?


  • This means once plant species collected from nature are put through our HP - protocols to grow in an STC-System; there is no more need to go back into nature to collect another crop for the next year or beyond crop.
  • It means that once these collected plant species from nature have gone through our three – four months (depending upon the species of seaweed) Hybridization Period (HP); and becomes our seed stock; it is this seed stock that becomes sustainable.
  • This means; the seed stock will grow in a perpetual vegetative growing state indefinitely.
  • This means; the seed stock will NEVER reach the sporulation stage.
  • It means; there are NO more four seasons growing.
  • ONLY one season of VEGETATIVE growing; 365-days/year.
  • There is NO more need to “seed” ropes to be placed out in nature.
  • It means the seed stock becomes the “MOTHER PLANTS” that produces the sustainable biomass production of the STC-System.
  • As long as our growing, harvesting, & monitoring of the system protocols are followed from our training our clients personnel; these mother plants will continue to grow at a vegetative daily high growth rate (SGR %); INDEFINITELY.

Our seed stock, grown in our Seaweed Seed Stock Bank would be ready in one month time after set-up time of our client's site to attain full production & remediation capabilities.


Due to the many designs configurations of a particular eutrophic site; we decided to explain furhter about one particular design only; because of its versitlity and easy shipping & setting up to be readied for eutrophic water to flow through the STc-System; which are the Modulars.

Modulars are Turn-key STC-Systems re-furbished out of used HC reefer shipping containers or tractor reefer trailers.  These Modular STC-Systems come in three sizes; 20-ft, 40-ft, and 53-ft.

Each of these sizes could have various tank capacities but usual layout would have 3-tanks for 3-species or 1-tank for 1-specie.

•20-ft Mods can have three 1,000 gallon tanks or one 3,000 gallon tank.
•40-ft Mods can have three 2,900 gallon tanks or one 8,700 gallon tank.
•53-ft Mods can have four 2.900 gallon tanks or one 11,600 gallon tank.
